Installations

For Houston Area

Have SkyLab come out and install your filtration system, or even a complete aquarium/filter system set up.  I can get any type of lighting you need, as well as nearly any other product not specifically advertised on this site.  In short, you could get nearly everything you need for your setup right here and not have to look any further.  Please request quotes via email and.

The 195 Gallon project

This is my latest project; it's a 195 gallon tank measuring 60" x 26" x 28".  This tank is custom from top to bottom!!  The tank will have an open-top design (no canopy, no glass tops, etc.) with a PFO light suspended from the ceiling above the tank.  Light fixture will house three 250 watt, 14k Kelvin metal halides; as well as two blue actinic VHO's.  Top left photo shows where I had to make cut-outs for the plumbing into and out of the overflows.  I had the oak stand built such that each pair of doors swings out and away from each other with no verticals between the doors.  This provides easy access for allowing all the equipment to fit in thru the front of the stand.   The stand is 33" tall and was given a coat of polyurethane on the inside to protect from the moisture and humidity under the stand.

The 110 gallon project

This is 110 gallon African cichlid tank.  I'm going to be putting primarily Tanganyikans in this tank.  To the left, it has just been drilled out and fitted with bulkheads.

Above left it rests on its stand which we made extra tall:  33," which brings the aquarium right up to eye level.

Above right it has been fitted with a new center brace and corner overflow.  It's now also sporting new glass canopies and a power compact light, which will really bring out the cichlids' colors.

This is my signature version of the brand new SL-29 wet/dry filter.  Its bio-media compartment is roughly 16 to 18 gallons!!  I will use this filter for both the 110 above and my 75 gallon cichlid tank.  I've given this filter 2 drains, one for each tank.  It also has two independent returns for both tanks' return pumps, which will sit side-by-side in the sump area of the filter.

Set up now with water, this tank awaits rock-work.  The black back wall and black sand give this tank a bit of a mystique.  This will be a Tanganyikan tank and atop sits a power compact light to really bring out the colors of these African cichlids.  I'll be putting in cichlids with vivid colors, like Lamp. leleupi, to contrast their color with the black sand.

This SL-29 wet/dry filter is running both the 110 pictured and a 75 gallon cichlid tank that sits next to it.  The sump area houses two independent Mag Drive water pumps.  To the left of the wet/dry filter is an Eheim 2250 that is going to keep this tank very clean!  To get the Eheim into the stand, I had to cut out one of the wooden verts which was then attached to the door so that the two adjacent doors over lapped and left no visible gap between them.  This door was just flipped around and hinged to the wooden vert on the other side of the door.

A final list of this tank's inhabitants:
Altolamprologus calvus “Black”congo, F1 and F0

Cyp. lepto. Mpulungu “Blue Flash”
Neolamprologus leleupi “Super Orange"
Opthalmatilapia Nasuta Gold Lg. (F0) rare!  Pic 1  Pic 2
Cyathopharynx furcifer Moliro green marble
Tropheus sp. Ulwile Island “Firey Fry”— F1(Rare)
Synodontis angelicus Congo “Polka Dot”
J. transcriptus "kissi bemba"
C. foai "Kachese"  (see right; my actual fish is below)

The 75 gallon (see pic below) sitting next to this 110 just got some new inhabitants!!  I had a group of O. boops kipili (neon streak) shipped in from California.

The Black Bass Project

This customer's project called for a 75 gallon tank with oak stand and oak canopy.  This tank was given a super natural look to match the natural environment of the tanks inhabitants:  3 fingerling black bass.  Getting these bass was a project itself!!  Start to finish, this tank took just over two hours to set up.

This is a 29 gallon tank that I installed a corner overflow in.  The overflow houses the drain and return so that all plumbing is hidden.  The back was painted black to match the overflow.  A white sand bed was added which created a striking contrast to the black background.  The wet/dry filter is an SL-10; this is like putting a V-8 in a Volkswagon Bug!!  This tank is ready for action!!
