Special Requests
A couple of my good
friends recently acquired a 200 gallon tank that needed to be drilled and have overflows
installed. I also had two custom sumps built to their specifications. You can
see this project and how everything was plumbed and put together on their personal web
page here. If you need ideas for your setup,
this is a good starting point!
Extra holes can be drilled in filters and
fitted with bulkhead fittings for attaching protein skimmers, UV sterilizers, etc.
Cost of $25.00 per hole includes bulkhead fitting.
Dimensions of filters can be
altered. If you like one of our basic designs but want to make an adjustment to it,
no problem!
If you need a totally custom filter, we
can help you put your thoughts into a real design and build it for you.
A filter that I have to custom order
doesn't cost more than it's stock filter counterparts. In other words, you're not
paying more because a filter is a special order.
Please ask about anything you want or need
that you don't see on this web site.

|
| This is a previous special request.
It's been dubbed the SL-Baby Giant, because of its compact size, oversized drains and dual
output. This filter was designed for a customer who had limited space for a wet/dry
but needed a filter with a high flow rate. This one has two RIO 3100's working
independently, each with its own output port and bulkhead. Two 1.5" bulkheads
are attached over the drip plate for drains. The filter measures 25" x 15"
x 13". Does not include water pump or bio-media. Cost: $280.00 |

|
|

|
| This is an SL-30 EcoSump with a few
modifications. A baffle has been added to create a chamber for water to fall into
from the dual 1" drains and through a filter pad plate. A bulkhead has also
been added to the last baffle for a protein skimmer output into the water pump
compartment. This sump also has dual 3/4" returns. Cost: $340.00

|
| Refugiums: Refugiums serve many purposes. They increase the total
volume of the system which helps keep temperature and water chemistry more stable.
They also serve as quarantines for new fish, and hospitals for sick fish. Refugiums
also provide ideal growing conditions for food items such as copepods and amphipods for
invertebrates in the main tank. The refugium also provides a controlled growing area
for macro-algae , which can be used to reduce nuisance algae in the main tank. |

|
| This is a refugium made to stand
behind the nano reef tank that it was built for. Its measurements are approximately
14" x 5" x 18," but these dimensions can be altered to fit your tank.
A powerhead will sit in the bottom of the first compartment and will draw water from the
aquarium. The water flows between the first two baffles and down into the
bio-chamber; then over the third baffle where it gravity feeds back into the
aquarium. The beauty of this design is that it does not rely on siphons and the
water pump is in the refugium itself instead of the aquarium. Cost: $175.00

|
Above is the nano-reef that this refugium
was built for. To the left is a side view of the set-up. A deep sand bed was
created in the refugium with 15 pounds of sand. Not too shabby!! |

|
"SkyLab II" |
| Yet another special order refugium!!
This one measures 20" x 7" x 18." A small box was built around the
return bulkhead to prevent things like caulerpa from getting sucked into the
bulkhead. This saved more room in the bottom of the refugium for live sand,
etc. The first baffle is about 3.5" from the end, and is followed by a second,
smaller baffle that directs water down into the refugium. Cost: $200.00 |

|

|
SkyLab's 'PC Refugium' |
| This refugium was made for a
custom, reef ready 29 gallon aquarium. A Hamilton power compact light sits on
top. This refugium measures 22" x 10" x 20". Only one baffle
was put in this refugium so that more space could be dedicated to the main chamber.
Water from the tank drains directly into the main compartment of the refugium. The
drain is fitted with a 1" bulkhead, and the return has a 3/4" bulkhead. The
light is not included. Cost: $230.00 |
|
|

|

|
| For this customer, we made dual,
matching refugiums that will sit behind the 125 gallon main tank as seen in the photo on
the left. Each refugium measures 24" x 10" x 18" and is just short of
19 gallons each. On the right you can see the 'special request' sump that we made
for him. This sump has two 1" drains, two 3/4" outputs, and a 3/4"
input for the protein skimmer. Nice job setting this up!! |

|
This is SkyLab's Twin Sump design. The first taller sump (22" x 13" x
18") is a refugium where the water drains from the tank. The water then gravity
feeds thru two 1.5" drains into a shorter sump (20" x 13" x 13") that
will house a water pump and heater. There are two shelves designed to hold
mechanical filter media (like the sponge in the image) that the water must pass thru
before returning to the tank. This is an excellent solution for a sump that would
have been too large to ship. Cost: $370.00 |

|
SL-Fusion sump

|

|
| This is the SkyLab-Fusion, an all-in-one combination of a sump, wet/dry,
and refugium. The water drains into the bulkhead (shown in left photo) over the
bio-balls. The water will then go one of two places; either flow directly
toward the return pump, or will be drawn into a protein skimmer that will rest in the sump
area on the left side of the filter. The protein skimmer then returns the water into
the refugium part of the sump (along the back wall of the sump). The refugium then
drains down through a pipe and into the last part of the sump and to the return
pump. Measurements: 24.5" x 16" x 14." Cost $380.00 |

|
|

|
| The SkyLab-Millenium
is nearly a cube with dimensions of 17" x 17" x 14." It has dual
1" drains and a 1" bulkhead for the return pump. It also has a 3/4"
bulkhead for a protein skimmer to drain into the drain chamber. An egg-crate shelf
under the drains can be used to put a filter pad as a prefilter. This filter is
deceptively large, you almost have to see it in person to appreciate it! Does
not include water pump. Cost: $305.00 |

Nano Reef-Ready Tanks:
Nano-Tank |
|
| The CPR Nano-Tank has been designed to
make nano-reef keeping easy. The Nano-Tank's filtration system, which uses our very own
filter media, Bio-Bale, is able to keep the tank clean and healthy with little
maintance.This 6-gallon Nano-Tank, with a 13 1/2" x 11 1/4" footprint, is small
enough to fit on a desk while providing quiet, reliable filtration. The Nano-Tank comes
complete with biological filtration and a pump.
The Nano-Tank can be purchased with one of three setups:
| Tank only.
Product Code NTNK, Cost: $170.00 |
|
| Tank with the
canopy, but no lighting. Product Code NTCO,Cost: $210 |
|
| Tank with complete
canopy that includes a built-in light (1 quad 27W 50/50) . Product Code

This is an 8.2 gallon nano reef
tank with measurements 18.5" x 10.5" x 11.5." The back wall was
painted black and drilled out for a closed loop system for water circulation. The
center of the back wall has a 3/4" bulkhead for the closed loop's drain. Each
of the upper back wall corners has a 1/2" return. A custom glass canopy was
also made with a reduced back-splash and reduced front section to provide a larger area in
the middle for lighting. The front section is cut into two sections, the smaller of
which will be left open for an automatic feeder during vacations. Cost: $185.00 |

|
A closed loop is added for
water circulation. A hole is cut for the output to a water pump. One or more
holes is/are cut for returns where water circulation is desired. It is considered a
'closed loop' because the water never leaves the plumbing. Thus, during power
interruptions, the water from the tank cannot drain out of the loop.

|
| This is a 10 gallon Deluxe (made with 1/4" glass)
that has been fitted with a small overflow box in the upper right corner. A
3/4" bulkhead serves as the drain. A perfect solution for a small tank where
you want to sacrifice as little room as possible. Cost: $120.00 |

Here's a hopped up Special 10 gallon
nano-reef tank that's ready for action! Upper corner overflow houses a 1"
drain. A 1/2" return is to the left of the overflow. A closed loop was
added with a 3/4" drain in the center of the back wall, and a 1/2" return under
the overflow and in the upper left corner. Tank was built with 1/4"
glass. Cost: $225.00. |

This is a 20 High made reef-ready. It
has a corner overflow box housing two 3/4" bulkheads, one for the drain and the other
for the return. The back wall was also drilled out and fitted with a 3/4"
bulkhead for a closed loop system. The back of the tank was painted black, which
blends with the overflow and the bulkhead for a clean, sharp look. Cost:
$245.00

This is what this custom 20 gallon looks
like now, in the hands of its proud owner. There is a larger, more clear version of
this image on his personal
website. As you can see, I am interested in being updated with your
projects! |

A Special reef-ready 20 High with some extras. Behind the overflow is a 1" drain
and a 3/4" return. The return, however, will go thru the bulkhead near the top
of the overflow; instead of through a cut-out tooth at the top of the overflow. The
back wall was drilled out for a closed loop system with one drain and dual returns.
Circulation won't be a problem with this tank!! Cost: $290.00 |

|
| This is a 26 gallon reef-ready tank with
matching blue back wall, overflow box and bulkheads. The overflow houses a 1"
drain, and the water returns through the two 3/4" bulkheads on the back wall for
circulation. Because this is not a closed loop, the returns are near the water's
surface in case of power interruptions. Cost: $275.00 |

This is a 29 gallon reef-ready tank.
Inside the corner overflow is a 1" drain and a 3/4" return. This tank was
also drilled out for a closed loop system. A 3/4" drain with strainer is in the
top left corner, and the return is in the middle of the back wall. The back wall was
painted black. Cost: $280.00
